Dr Adrian Chiow
Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgeon

Dr. Adrian Chiow is a Consultant Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic (HPB) Surgeon at the Department of Surgery, Changi General Hospital (CGH). Dr. Chiow’s subspeciality interest is in minimally invasive (laparoscopic and robotic) practice of HPB.

He graduated with MBBS from the University of Melbourne (Australia) with Honours in 2003 and completed training in General Surgery at Singhealth and Eastern Health Alliance with Specialist Accreditation Board certification in 2012. He subsequently commenced his specialist HPB training in CGH before undergoing further subspeciality clinical training under the Human Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) award in 2013 for advanced and minimally invasive (laparoscopic/robotic) HPB Surgery under the tutelage of Professor Nicholas O’Rourke at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, Brisbane, Australia.

Since returning from fellowship, he started the advanced Laparoscopic HPB service in 2014 and the Robotic HPB program in 2016. He is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as senior clinical lecturer and MBBS Examiner with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He serves a concurrent role as Associate programme director for the Singhealth General Surgery Residency Program.

Dr. Chiow served as the co-chair of the Inaugural IASGO Singapore Postgraduate Course in 2015 and is currently a committee member of the HPBA (Singapore) chapter of the IHPBA.

Dr. Chiow’s research interests are in improving clinical outcomes and quality of life for patients undergoing minimally invasive HPB surgery. He has published in several peer reviewed journal articles in his field of interest and is a reviewer for several local and international journals including Journal of HPB Sciences (JHBPS), World Journal of Gastroenterology, Annals of Academy of Medicine Singapore and Singapore Medical Journal.

He holds grants investigating techniques in improving laparoscopic liver surgery and has been invited to speak in local and international meetings in minimally invasive HPB surgery.
