Hung-Cheng Lai, MD PHD
Dr. Lai got his M.D. and Ph.D. from the School of Medicine and Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, National Defense Medical Center (NDMC), Taiwan in 1993 and 2003, respectively. He was a visiting scholar to German Cancer Research Center in Germany and Ohio State University in USA. He is now a professor and chairman of department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, School of Medicine, Taipei Medical University (TMU) and the vice superintendent of Shuang Ho Hospital, an affiliated teaching hospital of TMU in New Taipei City, Taiwan.
Dr. Lai is a board-certified gynecologic oncologist and a pioneer of robotic surgery in Asia. In Taiwan, he did the first robotic gynecologic surgery as early as 2004, organized the first robotic surgery symposium in 2010, performed the first live case demonstration in 2013, demonstrated the first robotic single site surgery and fluorescent sentinel lymph node mapping in 2014. In addition, his translational epigenetic research has successfully developed DNA methylation biomarkers for cervical cancer screening, which has been approved by TFDA and CE. His recent work on endometrial cancer screening biomarkers is also promising.
