Dr Vishal completed his MBBS from Gujarat University in 1999 and surgical residency from B. J Medical College, Ahmedabad in 2002 with thesis on ‘Hashimoto’s thyroiditis’ leading to MS (General Surgery). He passed national surgical exams and was accorded DNB (General Surgery) in 2003 and was appointed as Assistant Professor in General Surgery at Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad. He passed MRCSEd in 2005 and worked in UK-National Health Service for 2 years before coming to Singapore.

He completed 1 year Clinical Fellowship in HPB and Liver Transplantation at National University Hospital in 2007 and obtained Hesperis Diploma in Organ Transplantation from ECOT with thesis on ‘Theft, Trafficking, Trade and Transplant Tourism’ in 2008. He also completed MMed (Surgery) from NUS in 2008 and Advanced Surgical Training in 2012 with FRCS (General Surgery). He was elected as a Fellow of Academy of Medicine and awarded HMDP to pursue Advanced Laparoscopic HPB surgery at Southampton General Hospital, UK. Dr Vishal passed UEMS conducted HPB surgery exam and was elected as a Fellow of European Board of HPB surgery in 2014. He was awarded Davies Foundation Trust Travelling award to pursue Robotic Pancreas Surgical Fellowship at University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre in 2015.

Dr Vishal enjoys teaching and has received Certificate of Commendation from National University of Singapore and NHG Clinician Teacher award for teaching undergraduates. He is also appointed as Clinical Senior Lecturer with Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and a Core Faculty member of NHG-APL surgical residency programme. Dr Vishal is also Assistant Lead and Adjunct Asst. Prof in Surgery for Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. He has been conferred visiting Professorship of 2015 by Asian Institute of Telesurgery, IRCAD, Taiwan for teaching in Laparoscopic courses. Dr Vishal is an instructor for ATLS, CCrISP and SMA Ethics courses.

Dr Vishal has completed Master in Clinical Investigation with NUS with MOH-NRF Scholarship award. He has more than 40 peer reviewed publications and book chapters. He is mentoring surgical residents pursuing clinical research. He serves in editorial board of international surgical journals. He is in the governing council of International College of Surgeons and represents Singapore in World Society of Emergency Surgery. He is a coapted member with Chapter of General Surgeons, College of Surgeons, Singapore.
